OUR MISSION

IMPROVING THE LIVES OF WOMEN AND GIRLS WHO SURVIVED THE GENOCIDE

Empower these women, empower her. Or in Kinyarwanda – the official language in Rwanda: Mukomeze

This coffee helps to improve the conditions of girls and women who have survived various forms of sexual violence during the genocide in 1994.

In 1996, the United Nations estimated that 250,000 to 500,000 women and girls were raped and/or suffered other forms of sexual violence during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, of which only 25,000 were estimated to have survived the genocide.

The consequences for these women are still visible today. Not only physically and psychologically, but also socio-economically. With the cultivation and sale of Bèkske coffee beans, the self-sufficiency of these women is increased. They also often feed 3 to 4 children’s mouths, many of which suffer from the stigma of a past that they have not asked for.

We strive for a better world with equal opportunities for all
